3 & 4 year olds

All three- and four-year olds in England are eligible to receive 570 hours of early education, or childcare, per year. This can be taken as 15 hours over a week (term time) or can be stretched for 10 hours a day (over the full year).

Funding starts the term after your child turns three. Therefore, your child’s birthday must be before:

  • 31 March eligible for funded nursery education from Summer Term (April)

  • 31 August eligible for funded nursery education from Autumn Term (September)

  • 31 December eligible for funded nursery education from Spring term (January)

When your child starts their funded place, you will be asked to sign an agreement, which states the terms and conditions of your child’s placement. Please supply a copy of your child’s original birth certificate which we will then take a copy of for our records.

Working parents may be entitled to 1140 hours of funded early education or childcare a year. Your child is entitled to a maximum of 30 hours per week in a term time placement, or 20 hours per week stretched over the full year.

Please note:

  • 15 and 30 hours of free funding does not cover consumables & materials, Tapestry, our tablets for photos, videos and daily diaries, maintenance of our nursery, admin – (hugely increased by how funding is handled). With the impact of covid, the living Wage rates, food and general running costs for the Early Years Sector many settings will now have to charge parents for Additional services not covered by the Early Years Funding. From April 2023, we shall be charging for additional services for all newly funded children, partly covering the consumables' cost. This charge will also cover the cost of your child's Learning Journey, baking, messy play, craft supplies, personal care and consumables. It will also cover the cost of other groups or outside agencies we have come into the nursery and our various events/parties throughout the year.
